You trusted Jesus. What comes next?
What Happens After I Become a Christian?
Following Jesus is the beginning of a relationship, not the end of a checklist. You will keep learning, growing, asking questions, and sometimes stumbling. Keep coming back to Him.
Talk to Jesus
Prayer does not have to be long or fancy. Tell Him what happened today, what you are afraid of, what you are thankful for, and where you need help.
Learn how to pray →Read the Bible
Start with one of the Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John - and learn what Jesus said and did. Read slowly. Ask God to help you understand.
Use the Bible help →Learn to Trust Him
Faith grows as you know Jesus better. You do not need all the answers before taking the next step.
What is faith? →Expect Growth, Not Instant Perfection
Christians can still make mistakes. When you sin, do not run away from Jesus. Confess it, receive His forgiveness, learn, and continue following Him.
Follow Jesus in Believer's Baptism
After you trust Jesus and are saved, baptism is a beautiful next step of following Jesus. Jesus was baptized, and He told His followers to make disciples and baptize them. Believer's baptism does not earn being saved or make you worthy of God's love. It is an public way to show the faith already in your heart - a way of saying, “I belong to Jesus, and I want to follow Him.”
If you are able, talk with a trustworthy Bible-believing church or a trusted Christian who has followed Jesus for a long time about baptism and what it means.
Find Other Christians and Support One Another
Following Jesus was never meant to be something you have to do completely alone. When it is safe and possible, find a Bible-believing church or trustworthy Christians who love Jesus and take Scripture seriously. Pray for one another, encourage one another, learn together, help each other through hard days, and remind each other of God's truth when someone is discouraged.
You may be able to encourage someone else even while you are still learning. Being with other Christians is not about having everything figured out. It is about walking with Jesus together.
Understand the Spiritual Battle
The Bible says believers will face temptation and spiritual attacks. You do not need to live in fear. Learn the Armor of God and stand in truth, faith, Scripture, prayer, and the gospel of peace.

Your relationship with Jesus is not based on pretending you never struggle. Keep talking to Him, keep reading His Word, and keep learning to follow Him.
Your Next Simple Steps
Common Questions
You may be wondering about one of these questions. Here are short answers to help you keep going.
What should I do after I become a Christian?
Pray, read the Bible, learn about Jesus, and begin living what He teaches one step at a time.
Should I be baptized?
Believer’s baptism is a public way to show that you have trusted Jesus. It does not earn salvation; it shows outwardly what you believe in your heart.
Do I need other Christians?
Yes. Other believers can pray with you, teach you, encourage you, and help you keep following Jesus. Choose people whose lives point you toward Him.
Keep a Prayer Journal or “God Glass”
A simple journal - or even a special jar or “God Glass” filled with notes - can help you remember what you prayed about and notice how God has been working in your life.
Write down your prayer requests and the date. When you notice an answer, write down what happened and when. About once a month, look back through your requests. Notice which prayers have been answered, which ones you are still waiting on, and whether the answer came in a way you did not expect.
Remember, an answer may be yes, no, not yet, or something different from what you asked for. Prayer is not about getting everything we want. It is about talking with God, learning to trust Him, and noticing His care and the ways He has helped you.
Write Down How You Saw God Today
Along with your prayer requests, write down one or two ways you noticed God during the day. Maybe it was the beauty of His creation - a sunrise, mountains, flowers, animals, rain, or the stars. Maybe a Bible verse spoke to exactly what you were going through. Maybe someone encouraged you at just the right time.
Sometimes something unexpected happens that makes you wonder whether God was protecting or guiding you. Maybe you narrowly avoided an accident. Maybe you were frustrated because you were running late, only to discover later that arriving earlier might have placed you in the middle of something unexpected. Or perhaps something happened that seemed so very unusual that you could only describe it as a miracle.
Write those moments down too. You do not have to decide that every coincidence was a miracle or that you understand exactly what God was doing. Sometimes we simply do not know. You can write, “I don't know if this was God, but it made me stop and thank Him.”
Also write down a Bible verse that spoke to you that day and a sentence about why it mattered. Months or years later, your journal may become a beautiful record of prayers, difficult seasons God brought you through, unexpected answers, moments of protection, Scripture that encouraged you, and ordinary days when His creation reminded you that He was near.
The goal is not to search anxiously for signs everywhere. It is simply to slow down, pay attention, be thankful, and learn to recognize God's goodness in both very unusual moments and very ordinary ones.
