Being Saved Through Jesus Christ — How to Be Saved

Your Response Is Your Choice

God does not force belief. Being Saved is offered as a gift, and a gift can be received or refused. Jesus invites you to come to Him, but the decision to trust Him must be real and personal.

Do not say a prayer simply because a website told you to. If you pray, speak honestly to God because you want to know Him and trust Jesus.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” - Romans 10:13 (KJV)

A simple explanation of John 3:16, the Romans Road, Romans 10:9, and trusting Jesus Christ.

Common Questions

You may be wondering about one of these questions. Here are short answers to help you keep going.

How can I be saved?

Believe in Jesus Christ, trust what He did on the cross and in His resurrection, and ask Him to forgive you and save you.

Do I have to be good enough before Jesus will save me?

No. Salvation is a gift from God. You come to Jesus because you need Him, not because you have already made yourself perfect.

Can God forgive a serious sin?

The Bible teaches that Jesus offers forgiveness to people who turn to Him. Bring your sin to Him honestly and ask for His mercy.

Can God Forgive My Sin? Can Jesus Forgive Me?

Yes. If you are searching for forgiveness, wondering whether your sin is too great, or asking whether Jesus could still love you after what you have done, the Bible's message is one of grace and hope. Being Saved is not earned by becoming perfect first. Jesus calls sinners to come to Him, trust Him, and receive God's gift of life with God forever.

If you are afraid of Hell or wondering how to go to Heaven, begin with Jesus Christ. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” — John 14:6 (KJV)

How Do I Get Saved and Accept Jesus? — The Romans Road

You do not need to understand every Bible prophecy before you come to Jesus Christ.

A quick word about “sin”: The Bible uses this word for our wrong choices and the ways we go against what God says is right. The Ten Commandments give clear examples of God's standards. We have all made mistakes and all fallen short, which is why we all need grace and forgiveness. You do not have to make yourself perfect before coming to Jesus.
Romans 3:23: All have sinned — all of us have fallen short of God's standard.
Romans 6:23: Sin brings death, but God's gift is life with God forever through Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8: God showed His love for us: Christ died for us while we were sinners.
Please hold on to this promise — Romans 10:9:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Romans 10:13: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you want to come to Jesus, you can come to Him right where you are. Tell Him honestly that you need His forgiveness. Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. Put your trust in Him rather than trying to make yourself good enough first. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and call upon Him for being saved.

You do not need perfect words. Prayer is simply a way of speaking honestly to God. Jesus Christ is the One who saves, and being saved is God's gift received through faith in Him.

A Prayer for Everyone Reading This Guide

Father in Heaven, I pray for every person reading this guide. Give them understanding of Your Word and help them know what is true. Protect them from fear, deception, danger, and despair. Provide what they need and surround the vulnerable, hurting after a loss, injured, and alone with help and mercy.

Above all, help them know the love of Jesus Christ. If the person reading this does not yet know Jesus, open their heart to understand that Jesus died for their sins, was buried, and rose again. Help them turn to Him, trust Him, confess Jesus as Lord, and receive Him as Savior.

Lord Jesus, give them courage when they are afraid, peace when overloaded, comfort when hurting after a loss, good judgment when confused, and strength to remain faithful to You. Lead them to Scripture and trustworthy believers. Remind them that darkness does not win: Jesus Christ wins. Thank You for the Cross, the empty tomb, Your mercy, forgiveness, and life with God forever. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

John 3:16 — “Should Not Perish” and the Second Death

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16 (KJV)

John 3:16 places two destinies in contrast: perishing and everlasting life. Jesus came so that the person who believes in Him will not perish but have life with God forever.

Later Scripture gives us language that helps explain the final destiny of those who are not in Christ. Revelation 20:14 calls the lake of fire “the second death.” Revelation 21:8 again identifies the lake of fire as “the second death.” In that sense, John 3:16's warning about perishing is consistent with the Bible's later revelation of final judgment and the second death.

“Perish” does not mean that a human being was never important to God. John 3:16 begins with God's very unusual love: God gave His Son. The warning is paired with an open promise: whosoever believeth in him has everlasting life.

I hope you will hear the love in these words.

John 3:16 begins with God's love and promises everlasting life to whoever believes in His Son. Romans 10:9 gives a simple response: confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. You can talk to Him right where you are.
